Do you also wonder where our planet is heading? We started thinking about it 19 years ago. The question remains, although plastics make everyday life easier, what impact do they have on our blue planet? Can we help our planet by recycling used waste? Definitely YES.
As we all know, plastics were not always here. They are a human creation designed to simplify everyday life, which they succeeded in doing. Over the years, plastics have reached everywhere. Although we may not realize it, packaging in all its forms is an inseparable part of our daily life. We have plastic furniture, windows, doors, toys, bottles, even clothing and yogurt packaging. Plastics are now found almost everywhere. Surely you have encountered warnings in your life that we need to slow down. That is why our company ensures that waste is handled in accordance with the law and especially with the protection of our Earth.
Therefore, we decided to teach and motivate young generations how to handle plastic waste. We created the Recycle and Win competition for children in kindergartens, elementary, and secondary schools to engage playfully and learn that waste must be sorted so plastics reach places where they are handled according to principles protecting our nature. We are very pleased that this year we evaluated the 19th edition of the competition. Contestants collect packaging from Tetra Paks along with caps from yogurts, which they bring to the collection yard. We weigh everything (for example, this year we collected up to 12 tons of waste) and assign points. They also create imaginative creations from packaging that get more beautiful every year. You can currently see this year’s creations at the exhibition in the NOVUM shopping center in Prešov.
WHAT DO WE DO WITH PACKAGING AND WASTE IN OUR COMPANY?
“After collecting Tetra Paks and aluminum caps from schools, these commodities are transported by a waste company and handled according to the waste management hierarchy, meaning disposal with regard to environmental protection and minimizing harmful emissions,” said Mgr. Dávid Bortňák from the company’s technical department.
We adhere to this principle throughout our company’s operations. During production, shipping, wholesale, and retail sales, various types of waste arise, which our company carefully sorts, classifies according to the waste catalog, and through contractual partners in waste management (collection companies, producer responsibility organizations), we subsequently hand over for further recycling or disposal by incineration, which is energetically utilized. Nothing goes to waste.
Also, in the retail network, there is battery take-back and within the Slovak deposit system, glass, plastics, and cans are also collected. The company also carefully handles hazardous waste (fluorescent lamps, electronics, or cooling devices), which are temporarily stored in a hazardous waste warehouse and then handed over to a waste company for disposal.
Our company cares that future generations have a better life, and through the Recycle and Win competition, we motivate our youth to join us and protect their land. Because even small steps will get us to the goal. Join us too.
