Fondue

Fondue (pronounced "fondi") is a traditional Swiss cheese specialty that you can also prepare at home.

Long ago, it is said that Alpine shepherds, who were hungry and had mainly quality cheese at hand, melted it over a fire and then dipped bread into it. This quickly and easily satisfied their hunger and laid the foundation for a great delicacy. It has the quality that friends or family can meet around it, and it is expected that sharing food together strengthens their relationships. You can equip yourself with a special fondue set for such a cheese gathering. The cheese not only melts but must be kept in a liquid state the entire time until all is eaten.

Special long-handled forks are needed for dipping. But on the other hand, we can manage with what we have at home, as long as the mood is good. Melted cheese in a pot can be transferred to a small hotplate, and if there is no long fork, a skewer will do. However, the cheese is important because it can spoil a lot. For fondue, choose quality hard cheese, for example, the Volovec cheese from Milk Agro's offer is excellent for this purpose. Melted cheese is usually flavored with white wine, cayenne pepper, or nutmeg. The pot should be rubbed with garlic, and a pinch of starch added to the cheese.

This is so that the cheese does not remain at the bottom and its consistency is equally thick throughout. Dip toasted bread cubes, roasted potatoes, or pre-cooked vegetables in it. You can also spread butter and crushed garlic on the bread pieces. The dipping ingredients must be just the right size to fit on the fork and not crumble in the warm sauce. The bread should have a crust on at least one side; vegetables and potatoes must not be completely soft. Hot cheese can drip on furniture or scald skin, so be very careful or prepare a small plate for each diner.

In any case, you will have lots of fun and eat well. Good wine goes with quality cheese, and fondue can be a good opportunity for a nice evening with loved ones.
