How to handle snacks and not bore children.

The new school year will start soon, and many parents will face the daily preparation of school snacks. To help you avoid falling into a routine and to reduce stress from preparing them, we bring you a few ideas.

Whole grain baked goods, or classic dark bread are excellent helpers from which you can prepare many variations. Just have jam or honey, butter, ham, salami, cheeses, and various spreads available. A good idea is to add some vegetables, such as bell pepper, tomatoes, cucumber.

If you have a sandwich maker handy, don’t hesitate to use it! Kids will appreciate the crispy edges and the sealed contents.

Another great food in your fridge is puff pastry. Children love ready-made sweet pastries filled with various fillings. If you want to avoid industrial production, where pastries are often frozen and then baked in stores, prepare treats at home. Hotdog, croissant, pocket, or basket. All these basic shapes can be filled with meat, vegetable, or fruit fillings, or with curd cheese, cheese, or chocolate. And you don’t have to spend half a day on it. You can find many recipes for savory treats made from puff pastry online. We will also bring you some in the next article.

Yogurts, termix, and curd products also make decision-making easier. If your children love dairy products, give them a yogurt of their favorite flavor for a snack, and you can be sure they will eat it. You can also buy or make your own yogurt or curd, flavor it with homemade jam, or egg yolk with sugar, or fresh fruit from the garden or local market, various types of nuts, seeds, or flakes. For the sweetest ones, you can mix melted chocolate into the yogurt or curd, or simply grate or crumble it.

You can also prepare a larger amount and then divide it into small sealable bowls or baby food bottles for the kids, even the biggest ones.

By the way, baby food is also a good choice for a snack. Add a handful of ladyfingers or a few butter or oat cookies.

If children like cheese, give them a few pieces cut from a block about the size of a palm, or a separate cheese, for example, mini Babybel.

We must not forget to add some fruit to the snack. An apple, pear, or nectarine. If children are not enthusiastic about these foods, try cutting them into smaller pieces and briefly soaking them in water with lemon juice to prevent browning. Vegetables such as carrot, cucumber, beetroot, kohlrabi should also be cut into smaller sticks or slices. Do not cut tomatoes; rather, buy a smaller variety.
