Are they suitable during pregnancy, or is it rather the opposite?
Milk and dairy products have always been considered very healthy foods consumed worldwide. Since childhood, you may have heard your parents, especially mothers, constantly telling you to have yogurt or a glass of milk for breakfast or a snack. Dairy products are a great source of calcium, which you also need during pregnancy, but not all are suitable for you during this life period.
Suitable dairy products
The most suitable dairy products are mainly fermented ones. Also, cheeses and curds. Why are these types of foods suitable?
Fermented dairy products are the easiest to digest and have a lower content of milk sugar (also known as lactose). Because it is quickly digested, it does not stay in the body too long and does not cause damage that other, harder-to-digest products might. Thanks to the acidity that fermented foods have, calcium is better utilized, which is great for building strong and healthy bones. Hard and fresh cheeses, as well as curds, are especially suitable due to their high content of the mentioned calcium. They have one of the highest contents of this mineral, and proteins are equally important for building muscle mass.
Unsuitable dairy products
Cheeses are very good for you and your unborn baby, but you should avoid especially those with mold, such as Niva or Hermelín, and processed cheeses due to their high salt content. If you crave them, you can have a little, but do not overdo it and rather enjoy just a small piece.
Most importantly, make sure that cheeses, whether hard or fresh, are made from pasteurized milk. You should avoid especially unpasteurized bryndza. You should not have it at all during pregnancy.
