Interview with Martina Dorkinová

Martina Dorkinová is "Always Hungry", and what about you?

If you love food, the smell of home cooking, and recipes passed down from generation to generation, the name Martina Dorkinová is surely not unknown to you. The author of the blog Stvory z kuchyne, food stylist, and lover of good food has been inspiring not only with beautiful photos but also with delicious recipes for years. Her Hladná furt book series proves that food is more than just a necessity – it is passion, memories, and a way to bring joy to every table. She is co-author of the books Príbehy z kuchyne 1 and 2 and also created a recipe notebook called Zápisky z kuchyne.

In the interview, she shared with us her favorite flavors, family recipes, and why we should appreciate traditional ingredients and write down recipes so they don't get lost in digital dust. What role do dairy products play in her kitchen and which yogurt regularly brightens her mornings? Read on and maybe you too will be inspired by her stories full of aromas and tastes!

We know you know SABI products - tell us which of our dairy products you have already tasted and what you liked the most? Do dairy products have their place in your kitchen too?
When I think of SABI, coffee yogurt immediately lights up in my head. That's an addiction. Finding coffee yogurt is extremely difficult and yours regularly brightened my mornings at work ???? But in general, I love dairy products. When I was little, I could drink a carton of cold milk in one sitting ????

An integral part of the book is of course its author ???? What was your journey to cooking and baking? When did you discover your "passion for food"?
I think it must be some family gene ???? Grandpa was a baker, grandma was an expert in cooking without recipes, mom and I baked together, dad loves cooking from fridge leftovers, and the other grandma was an expert in pastries. So maybe it runs in the family. Or it was imprinted in me by those beautiful memories of food and its preparation. Moments when grandpa grilled sausages at home on the pan and filled the whole house with smoke because it was raining outside and we couldn't barbecue, or when every weekend mom and I baked sweets and danced in the kitchen. When dad conjured up a surprise dinner from leftovers or grandpa baked Christmas bread. A million beautiful memories that if I had to list, we would need a new book ????

In the past, cooking was done with seasonal and available ingredients, mostly homemade, especially dairy products. Today we have everything available all year round and mostly imported. Do you think traditional flavors are disappearing or can modern trends be combined with our roots?
I don't think they are disappearing. You can definitely feel a breath of new trends and possibilities in cooking and eating, but that's natural and I think also right. At the same time, most of us still enjoy good liver sausage, dumplings, or tasty steamed buns ???? A healthy balance is definitely the right way for me.

Christmas, Easter, or feasts – almost every family has its established recipes, family "treasures". Do you have a family recipe that is passed down from generation to generation?
Of course, there are many ???? That's why I created my recipe notebook. It's beautiful to inherit recipes and be able to prepare at home what I regularly ate as a child. Mom wrote down our family recipes in the notebook and that is my treasure. I also have recipes from my ex-mother-in-law, and those have also become my family treasure. Everyone should write down their favorite homemade treats somewhere on paper so they don't get lost in digital dust and so that one day our children or anyone else can cook them again and travel back in time ????

Is there any food you dislike and absolutely refuse to eat? Or something you tried and would never make again? ????
There are many. I am a conservative food blogger. Maybe an unusual combination, but I am. But what has kept me since childhood is lečo. As a child, I couldn't stand the smell even through closed doors ????
