What You Didn't Know About Cheese

Few people know that cheese is the most stolen edible commodity in the world. Up to 4% of total production is stolen. Why is that? It turns out people do not steal it for survival but for resale. Cheese is so tasty that there is even a black market for stolen cheeses.

You probably didn't know that in Italy, there is a bank that provides loans in exchange for cheese. It is highly valued Parmesan. "This Parmesan is like gold. We try to financially support Parmesan producers. These cheeses must be stored for two years before they are ready for sale, which causes cash flow problems. We take the cheese and instead provide producers with a cheap loan," explained Alfredo Germini from Credem bank in northern Italy. The total value of cheeses in vaults is estimated at over 140 million euros.

Exclusive cheese from Swedish moose named Gullan, Haelga, and Juna is considered the most expensive in the world. Its uniqueness lies in the source being moose and the fact that milking can only take place during four months a year, producing only three cheeses annually.

Former world-famous French president Charles de Gaulle once remarked: "How can anyone govern a nation that has 246 different kinds of cheese?" The French undoubtedly love their cheese, and de Gaulle would surely be shocked to learn that some experts estimate France currently has about 1,000 different types of cheese.

Fresh, healthy, and tasty, such are Slovak SABI cheeses. They are exceptional; some are enriched with important probiotic cultures that have beneficial effects on our health and help us in many ways. They are a natural source of calcium, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. They help remove substances that could cause cancer and normalize body functions in stressful situations. Interestingly, probiotic cultures slow aging and, thanks to their positive effect on metabolism and related detoxification, also alleviate skin quality issues.
